An incentive program for Island cattle producers will keep on giving for at least the next year. In early spring the Prince Edward Island Department of Agriculture announced it would extend the life of a popular remuneration program that provides beefproducers with support to improve their herds. "It is just a matter of trying to encourage people who want to go in the right direction but can't because of the cash flow issue," says Les Halliday, beef development officer for the Department of Agriculture. "We can't force the marketing side of things. So if we can help out a little bit on the farm than that is the way we will try to do it."
