In the present work, Ca_(2.95-x)MgxAl2O6:0.05Eu~(3+) phosphors with varying concentrations of magnesium were prepared by combustion method at 550°C. The structural and luminescent properties of as synthesised phosphor materials are explored by using various characterisation techniques. Under 393 nm excitation, the emission spectra exhibit two intense peaks at 589 nm and 612 nm attributing to ~5D0→ ~7F1 and ~5D0→ ~7F2 transitions, respectively. The chromaticity diagram represents the coordinates of all spectral colours and their mixtures based on the tri-stimulus values of the primary colours contained by them. The CIE chromaticity coordinates are found to be the reddish-orange region. The results suggest the possibility of utilising phosphor in solid state lighting.
