This standard provides design, fabrication, and performance criteria and guidance for solid radioactive waste processing systems for light-water-cooled reactors. The purpose of this standard is to provide criteria to ensure that the solid radioactive waste processing systems are designed, fabricated, installed, and operated in a manner commensurate with the need to protect plant personnel and the health and safety of the public. All published ANS standards can be ordered through Techstreet at techstreet.com/publishers/ans or 855/999-9870. This standard is applicable to the storage of fissile materials. Mass and spacing limits are tabulated for uranium containing greater than 30 weight percent uranium-235 and for plutonium as metals and oxides. Criteria for the range of application of these limits are provided.
