The European Commission has launched an investigation into the possible circumvention of the antidumping measures applied to Indonesian cold rolled stainless sheets and coils, due to transshipment of these products in Taiwan, Turkey, or Vietnam. Material imported from these countries is now subject to registration as it enters the European Union. The review is expected to take up to nine months to complete. It was initiated by the Commission upon receipt of evidence, submitted by Eurofer, that suggested an unexpected change in trade patterns following the application of tariffs against Indonesia, in September 2021. In April 2023, the Commission cited similar concerns when it applied a 17.3 percent duty rate to hot rolled stainless steel sheets and coils consigned from Turkey but originating in Indonesia.
