Bangkok-ABB said it has been awarded a contract by NatureWorks to automate their new greenfield plant in Thailand that will convert sugar cane to Ingeo polylactic acid(PLA)biopoly-mer(PCN,24 Jan 2022,p 3).The estimated $600-million PLA manufacturing complex,located at the Nakhon Sawan Biocomplex,will have 75,000 t/y of sustainable Ingeo biopolymer production capacity and produce the full portfolio of Ingeo grades.Operations are expected to begin in the second half of 2024.The facility will ferment and distill plant-based sugars,converting the sugars first to lactic acid and then lactide.
