The old year has passed and the new one has arrived. What were some of the key events of 2021, and what will 2022 hold for the nuclear community? The focus of this issue of Nuclear News is on exactly that: looking back at the old year and ahead to the new one. Looking back, key personnel developments in 2021 included Christopher Hansen being named chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Jennifer Granholm becoming secretary of the Department of Energy, and Kathryn Huff moving into the role of principal deputy assistant secretary and acting assistant secretary in the DOE's Office of Nuclear Energy. Regarding facilities, Honeywell announced plans to resume production in 2023 at its Metropolis Works uranium conversion facility in Illinois. Also in Illinois, going into the last seconds of the 11th hour, the state legislature finally enacted the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act, which in part provides needed financial assistance to three of Exelon's nuclear plants-Braidwood, Byron, and Dresden. And TerraPower selected a site in Wyoming for its Natrium reactor demonstration project.
