Stockists held back from order placement as nickel values softened during the first half of August. The local hot rolled plate producer, New Castle, commands a substantial price premium over imported material, due to its market-leading short delivery lead times. The Finnish-owned stainless steel producer, Outokumpu, is considering expanding its operations with a new hot rolling mill in North America.
