DESPITE THE Omicron variant of COVID-19 spreading globally, airlines continue to introduce new services. Industry resource Routes reported that 50 new connections in all the key markets - Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America, the Middle East, Africa and South America - will be opened by the end of January 2022. Airline stocks rallied early in the New Year, with executives at several major European carriers, including easyJet and Wizz Air, expressing confidence that 2022 will mark a return to normality. Passengers flying into the UK no longer need to take a pre-departure test and complete a PCR test two days after arrival. With Omicron so prevalent in the UK, Prime Minister Boris Johnson claimed testing measures would have "limited impact on the growth in cases while continuing to pose significant costs to our travel industry." Arriving passengers must still take a lateral flow test.
