We are privileged to write for you once more as your representatives on the RCGP council with Khaled Zeidan, AiT chair, and Sahan Samaraweera and Jigisha Gaglani, AiT vice-chairs. As a GP trainee, preparing for the applied knowledge test (AKT) and recorded consultation assessment (RCA)/simulated consultation assessment (SCA) exams can be a daunting task. Both exams require a significant amount of preparation, but with the right approach, you can succeed. In this article, I will share some of my experiences with the AKT and RCA/SCA exams and offer some tips and advice to help you prepare and succeed in these exams. Preparation is the key to success in both exams. Start early and plan your study time carefully. One of the most important things you can do is to familiarize yourself with the exam format and content. Consult recommended study materials, such as the Oxford Handbook and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines, as a starting point for your revision. Developing a good study plan will help you cover all the important topics and ensure that you are well-prepared for the exams.
