THE Atlantic Council's Andras Simonyi has some reservations about the durability of commercial ties between energy-hungry Europe and US liquefied natural gas suppliers. The former Hungarian ambassador to the US says an unwillingness among European buyers to commit to long-term supply contracts is holding back much-needed investment in natural gas infrastructure in the US. Europe is sending mixed messages, Simonyi says: It needs new gas supplies now to make up for the loss of Russian imports, but US supplies may not be so vital when peace returns to Ukraine.
