Babak Taghvaee winds back the clock to take a look at the role the US Navy RH-53D Sea Stallions played during Operation Eagle Claw, a mission to rescue American hostages. Operation Eagle Claw was a joint US Air Force, Navy and Army hostage rescue mission carried out on April 24, 1980, which lasted until the early hours of the following morning. Despite its failure, the operation shared the use of helicopters by the US Special Forces, particularly the Delta Force. It led to the creation of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) 'Night Stalkers' within the US Army and, ultimately, the design, development, and production of Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey tiltrotor military aircraft.
