Use of Virtualization in the Life Cycle of Process Control Systems

Today process control systems are using more and more standard IT such as Microsoft Windows and PCs with relatively short life cycles. However, plant operators want to be able to run control systems for at least 15 years without having to do frequent upgrades of the system's software or hardware. This article discusses the use of virtualization technologies to cope with short life cycles of third party technologies.
