The structure built in 1993 by "Jankerlclub Rossatz", the local hiking club, had already made it clear that the lookout tower atop the Seekopf was of great importance to the community. The tower crowning the 671 metre high summit in the Dunkelsteinerwald foothills remained for more than 25 years - and in order to preserve its magnificent panoramic view over the Danube valley, the Department of Art in Public Space of the state of Lower Austria joined forces with the local municipality and the club itself to replace the dilapidated tower with a new structure. In addition to addressing purely functional requirements, the aim was also to create a place of encounter where people can linger. After all, the World Heritage Trail with its 180 kilometres along the banks of the Danube is one of the most popular hiking routes in the area, and now it has an architectural highlight thanks to the pared-down, clear formal language of Eldine Heep and Klemens Schillinger.
