Improving the efficiency of protein utilisation in dairy rations

Protein is an essential component of dairy cow rations, but providing effective supplementation is very challenging at present, with high feed prices, uncertain supply chains and changing environmental pressures.In addition, challenging weather conditions in early Spring have resulted in large variations in grass silage protein content; making now an apt time for producers, alongside their feed advisors, to evaluate their winter rations to determine exactly howmuch supplementary protein is required to meet animal requirements and which are the optimum feeds to utilise.
