The curing and leaching process of Co3O4 by concentrated sulfuric acid was studied. The effects of concentrated sulfuric acid consumption, reducing agent consumption, curing time, and water leaching time on leaching recovery of cobalt were investigated. The results showed that under the acid material ratio (the ratio of concentrated sulfuric acid volume to Co3O4 mass) of 1.25 m(3).t(-1), the initial heating time of 1-2 min by electric furnace, self-curing time of 30 min, and water leaching time of 1.0 h, the leaching recovery of cobalt was more than 98%. XRD examination of the samples demonstrated that nearly all the Co3O4 waste were transformed into Co(SO4)(H2O). The leaching recovery of cobalt in Co3O4 is increased effectively by concentrated sulfuric acid curing leaching process. Moreover, it is not necessary to add any reducing agent in the leaching process, which reduces the leaching cost greatly. [GRAPHICS] .
