Northbound Suez LNG traffic rises in 2Q

The number of LNG cargoes shipped northbound through the Suez Canal picked up slightly in the second quarter of this year as a lack of shoulder season buying in northeast Asia resulted in more cargoes heading from the Middle East to Europe. A total of 76 cargoes headed north along the canal in April-June, compared with 61 in the previous quarter and 79 in the second quarter of 2012. The second quarter is traditionally a period of low buying in northeast Asia, meaning that Middle Eastern sellers such as Qatar send more cargoes to Europe. The UK took 25 Qatari cargoes in the quarter, compared with 10 in the previous quarter and 28 in April-June last year.
