It's been a rough couple of years for all of us, some more so than others. But I write this on a glorious winter's day - the sun is shining and when I stepped outside earlier, the cold air on my face made me smile and left me feeling just that little bit more positive, as if better times might lie ahead after all. And so it is with this month's issue, where we look at some of the commercial aviation good news stories - not least the resurgence of MROs (page 36), which have diversified and used a touch of canniness to survive the COVID shutdown. On page 86 we report on the unsung heroes of aviation - the route planners, the men and women who get us where we need to be, regardless of war zones, volcanoes and viruses.From unsung heroes to those whose work is better known, see page 24 where we delve into the world of aerial firefighting. As wildfires become ever more common, we examine the helicopters being used to tackle them and the efforts being made to ensure they have the tools they need, from Bambi Buckets to snorkel systems for swift refilling of water tanks.
