Rolls-Royce claims that its all-electric Spirit of Innovation - G-NXTE, a modified Sharp Nemesis NXT designated the Electroflight NXTE - has set three new world records for electric aircraft during recent flights from MOD Boscombe Down, Wiltshire. Noted air racing, aerobatic and warbird pilot Steve Jones was at the controls for the aircraft's record-breaking flights, with Rolls-Royce submitting flight data to the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI), which claims that at 15:45hrs on November 16, 2021, the aircraft reached a top speed of 555.9km/h over three kilometres, smashing the existing electric aircraft airspeed record by 213.04km/h. According to Rolls-Royce, in further runs "the aircraft achieved 532.1km/h over 15 kilometres - 292.8km/h faster than the previous record - and broke the fastest time to climb to 9,842ft by 60 seconds with a time of 202 seconds, according to our data. We hope that the FAI will certify and officially confirm the achievements of the team in the near future."
