Architecture can also serve The use of timber for the load-bearing structure and (sheet) metal for the facade stand for the field in which SWG Produktion operates and for the use of screws in wood and metal. With its new production hall this firm has not only increased its capacity but has also realised a superlative example of timber engineering building. Founded in 1967 and part of the Wuerth group, this business is one of Europe's biggest producers of screws. With around 230 employees it manufactures up to twelve million screws daily - and the trend is upwards. The new ensemble of buildings was designed and planned by the Vorarlberg team around Hermann Kaufmann from Schwarzach and his partners Christoph Diinser, Roland Wehinger and Stefan Hiebeler. They have been operating under the name HK Architekten since 2018. "The planning team with facade constructor, carpenter and builder of the shell was directly commissioned by the client at the start", explains Christoph Diinser. "The loadbearing structure was made by the company's own engineering office, SWG Engineering from Ruelzheim in Rhineland Palatinate. The building is a visible depiction of the logistics. The work processes and production methods in the hall were clear from the start. All that was needed was a shell for them. This led to a servant building that is adapted to the specific production processes. The special lighting situation was of particular importance, which explains the incisions in the roof."
