The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development (NEDO) has been working closely with the Technology Research Association for Advanced Display Materials (TRADIM) to realize the Ultra-Flexible Display Material Technology Development Project, which is being commissioned by NEDO. As part of the project, NEDO has succeeded in the manufacture of liquid crystal panels that use rolls of flexible color filter and thin-film transistor (TFT) substrate. The breakthrough technology will make it possible to replace the present process of bonding the glass substrate one sheet at a time with a sequential manufacturing process. The application of this technology is also expected to create an improved energy- and space-saving process that can efficiently manufacture color video-capable ultra-thin displays.
