RIG giant Transocean has announced new charters in the Norwegian Sea for two of its units and, although the company did not reveal the clients, rig market source told Upstream that ConocoPhillips and Shell are the operators in question. The semi-submersible Transocean Barents has been awarded a two-well contract in Norway that is expected to begin in February. The award is for about 200 days and adds an estimated $60 million in firm contract backlog.Additionally, the semisub Transocean Norge was awarded a four-well contract plus five one-well options in Norway, which is expected to begin in March. This award is for about 200 days and adds an estimated $56 million in firm contract backlog, Transocean stated.According to rig market sources, the deals are made with Shell to drill two new wells at the Ormen Lange field and ConocoPhillips for an exploration well in the Norwegian Sea.Shell and ConocoPhillips have not yet commented on the deals.
