Oil futures sold off heavily on the orst ofocial US trading day of 2023, with diesel leading the way as more bearish economic rhetoric and warmer than usual weather helped hammer the entire petroleum complex. In London, Brent crude for March delivery plunged by $3.81 to settle at $82.10 per barrel on Tuesday. In New York, February West Texas Intermediate (WTI) on Nymex sank $3.33 to close at $76.93/bbl on the exchange’s orst day back from the New Year's holiday.
