SPP floats new resilience benefit metric for grid projects near seam with MISO

Southwest Power Pool is for the first time floating a metric tomeasure the resilience benefit of grid projects that could boostinterregional transfer capability, a conversation that could haverelevance for the broader national debate about the importanceof interregional projects.Recent weather events have highlighted the role thatinterregional transfers have in keeping the lights on. During the2021 winter weather event, Midcontinent Independent SystemOperator and SPP were able to transfer nearly 13,000 MW thoughtheir ties to alleviate generation shortfalls.
