? 2023 Elsevier B.V.In this work, continuous wave laser beam welding was used to achieve a butt joint of 3 mm-thick Ti6Al4V alloy sheets. Microstructural analysis indicates the presence of martensitic α? and acicular α of different forms in the fusion zone (FZ) of the welded samples. The hardness of the FZ of the welded samples increases with decreasing heat input. Sample welded at heat input of 84 J/mm displayed the best combination of properties. The fracture of the tensile samples at the base metal (BM) showed that the butt joints are stronger than the BM.
