Dhaka-Bangladesh is planning to import LNG through long-term contracts and spot deals in a bid to achieve competitive prices and tackle the country’s natural gas deficit, driven by declining natural gas reserves and mounting demand from the downstream power and fertilizer sectors. Short-term purchases will be done through spot tenders, but the required volume is yet to be decided, said State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid told S&P Global Platts last week.
