With a twinkle in his blue eyes, Ed Harter, 86, walked over from the honey houseto shake my hand. I had wanted to meet Ed for some time after learning about his legendary life as a beekeeper in the small South Dakota town of Buffalo Gap. I was new to backyard beekeeping and hoping to add a few hives to some family property in nearby Custer, and was delighted to meet one of the "giants" of South Dakota and Wyoming beekeeping.
