CANADIAN junior Reconnaissance Energy Africa has come up trumps with its second exploration well in northern Namibia's Kavango basin, following on from success at its debut wildcat. The 6-1 probe intercepted 134 metres of light oil and gas shows "similar in character" to those seen in the company's original 6-2 well 16 kilometres to the south, it said last week. The company said its second well, like the first well, "shows clear evidence of a working conventional petroleum system," adding that the well will be drilled to target depth. Thirty-seven sidewall cores from the 6-1 have been taken and are now in transit to Core Labs in Houston, which is already analysing 150 sidewall cores from the debut 6-2 well. An upcoming 450-kilometre 2D seismic survey will tie in the data from these two wells and provide the first regional interpretation of the overall basin.
