Hello and welcome to this April issue of gasworld magazine. This edition arrives at both a sombre and uncertain time. The humanitarian crisis unfolding in Eastern Europe is on all of our minds and our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected by this tragic conflict. At the time of writing,it shows no sign of abating and the ongoing effects of the both the war itself, the increasing sanctions and the geopolitical ramifications are widespread. The impact upon industrial gas markets is varied. We've already heard about the potential for long-term consequences for the global helium business,a situation that would become particularly pertinent with Gazprom's Amur plant is back up and running and taking its place at the top table of helium production. There are also concerns regarding neon and rare gases production coming out of Russia and Ukraine, given the region's traditional role in these supply chains, globally.Whilst the neon business has experienced greater diversification in terms of regional supply hotspots in recent years, the prospect of any constraint on supply out of Eastern Europe is nonetheless a concern. These are likely just the tip of the iceberg as we know it today,in the first month of the conflict.
