MROs have been plagued with labour shortages and high turnover rates since the onset of the Covid pandemic. The start of the decade has brought on a wave of retirements and, with that, a loss of trusted and experienced technicians. With a smaller workforce and increased turnover, what can MROs do with their defect inspection techniques to accomplish more with less? Most MROs are heavily reliant on outdated defect inspection technology that is highly variable and time consuming. Optical comparators and stylus profilometers are commonly seen performing these measurements. Some inspection techniques do not rely on technology at all, but on visual and fingernail inspections that yield no quantifiable results.
