摘要

In a time of myriad crises, the climate crisis seems all-encompassing. But what feels different now is broader social awareness of it, and the peril our planet's in - and with it a distinct attitude shift. Good. It is increasingly unacceptable to throw, to squander, to chuck/ burn/demolish resources - and that goes for buildings too. And though it might seem like forever, it really is only relatively recently that it has even been possible to construct and maintain those Modernist architectural marvels that crowd out the covers of coffee table books and prettify Insta feeds. All that glass, concrete and steel, all that heating and cooling: a tremendous amount of energy goes into maintaining clean lines and perfect facades. Today, we know what all that energy expenditure, and those Co_2 emissions, are costing us: the Earth. And it's too much.
