Its creator is not Daniel Libeskind, however, but Alan Maskin of the culturally versed architectural firm Olson Kundig of Seattle, whose design, which integrally unites function, space and form, prevailed over 100 competitors in an open competition held in 2016. His Noah's ark is a boat and spaceship in one that contain an unbelievably great variety and density of paths and bizarre objects that succeed in linking places of concentrated introversion and others of interaction with a host of wonderful views of the powerful old concrete structure and skylights of the market hall from the 1960s. A removable, ring-shaped wooden structure with a diameter of 28 me- tres and a height of 7 metres has been implanted inside the expansive space of the hall. The amorphous ark was prefabricated from 20 curved glulam ribs with varying bending radii, spaced 5.5 metres apart, which were planked with a horizontal pattern of boards reminiscent of shipbuilding. Its numerous ramps and platforms offer children an extremely rich diversity of places to go in and out that are explicitly discovered in motion and repeatedly highlight the many different themes of the children's museum, whose focus is on sustain- ability and creativity. Filled with 150 fanciful animal figures made of recycled materials -which the architect had proposed in the competition and were subsequently executed by Berlin artists - this ark resembles a circus ring bursting with inspiration, in which dead materials have come to life. The TARDIS from Dr. Who, the biomorphic houses of the eclectic architect Bruce Goff and the spaceship from Stanley Kubrick's film "2001" evoke many associations for adults. This carbon-neutral spatial object, whose spruce wood framework has been given warmer surfaces on the inside made of beech, a more durable wood used here for the floors, benches and alcove chests, seems vibrant and alive.
