US Midwest refining margins rose in the week ended May 12 as planting season got underway in the nation’s heartland, countering weaker transportation demand for diesel, an analysis from S&P Global Commodity Insights showed May 15. "US demand has seen recent support from the agricultural sector, especially with corn and soybean planting above the 5-year averages," according to a May 12 note from S&P Global. "However, highway diesel demand is weak, with demand forecast to average 3.9 million b/d for the week ended May 12."
