NORWEGIAN engineering house Salt Ship Design has confirmed it has been carrying out early engineering studies for Equinor on a revamped floating production, storage and offloading vessel concept for the Bay du Nord oil project, offshore Canada. The company was selected to carry out engineering and design studies on the hull of the FPSO -to be moored in deep water offshore Newfoundland & Labrador as the floater - during the first iteration of the project a few years ago. However, Equinor went back to basics after reassessing project economics and the impact of nearby discoveries on the broader development plan, as well as on the FPSO. Now the vessel is expected to be larger, with a capacity of about 200,000 barrels per day. Salt Ship said that in February 2022 it signed a pre-front end engineering and design contract with Equinor "to mature and further develop the hull design in co-operation with [the operator], topside and turret contractors, class, flag and other authorities".
