FRENCH supermajor Total-Energies is the first company to be awarded a stake in QatarEnergy's North Field East (NFE) liquefied natural gas mega-project. TotalEnergies this week confirmed it has been awarded a 25% interest in a new joint venture with national player QatarEnergy on 75%. The joint venture will hold a quarter share in the 32 million tonnes per annum NFE development, equivalent to an 8 million tpa train. The $28.75 billion NFE project is expected to start production before the end of 2025. Analysts at Redburn said the deal goes some way to replacing Arctic LNG 2 for TotalEnergies - the French player had pulled out of the Russian liquefaction project after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
