1.Kuwait is understood to be preparing to launch a tender for a 1 million m~3/d wastewa-ter treatment at Kabd on a PPP basis (see story p27). 2.It will be one of the biggest WWTPs in the Middle East, but it will still have some catching up to do to reach the dizzy heights of the Gabal El Asfar complex in Egypt. Bidding on the latest add-on - which will take the total capacity at the site up to 3 million m~3/d - is expected to kick off in June. 3.At the other end of the scale, GWI caught wind of a 30-year PPP for a tiny 4,5oom~3/d wastewater treatment plant in the village of Czernica in rural Poland this month. Surely one for the locals? 4.As water restrictions become ever more draconian in California, the fate of the 50MGD (189,250m~3/d) Hun-tington Beach desalination project hung in the balance as GWI went to press. Coastal Commission staff have recommended its environmental permit application be rejected, although Governor Newsom is in favour of the plant. Nixing plans for a guaranteed drought-proof water supply in the middle of the worst drought for 1,200 years doesn't even make sense in Hollywood.
