摘要

The Federal Government's recent announcement of a proposed phaseout of live sheep exports by sea has been met with uproar by agricultural groups across the nation, who are arguing the plan has been fuelled by politics and activists. In early March, the Federal Government announced the first stage of its electoral commitment to phase out live sheep exports, in the form of setting up an independent panel to lead the consultation process.Chaired by former chief executive of the Murray Darling Basin Authority and senior public servant, Phillip Glyde, the panel also includes WA agriculture expert Sue Middleton, former Federal Minister, Warren Snowdon, and former RSCPA chief executive officer, Heather Neil.
