Reflective practice lies at the heart of good quality general practice. Alongside the mandatory clinical knowledge and practical skills in the curriculum, trainees need to demonstrate that they are proficient in good quality reflection through the 'reflective logs' on the ePortfolio. The ability to reflect in a meaningful and thorough way is vital to motivate doctors to be confident continuous learners, and therefore, fulfilled and competent practitioners.PUNs and DENs (patient's unmet needs and doctor's educational needs) (Denned in Box l)is a model that is widely used by qualified GPs across the world, and is a useful tool for facilitating and also demonstrating learning. This article aims to explain how the PUNs and DENs model works, some clinical examples and also some tips for reflecting (Box 2).
