Expectations that low water on the Mississippi river will re-duce grain volumes reaching the US Gulf coast for export are compounding concerns about global supplies and increasing demand for Panamax-sized grain cargoes from the region. The fourth quarter is typically when harvested US corn and soybeans are shipped down the Mississippi river for export at the Gulf coast. But access to Mississippi river ports has been hampered by low water that caused barge groundings and temporary closures last week.
