摘要

Eutrepsia (Larentiinae) are among the most conspicuous yet understudied geometrid moths in Mesoamerica. Ranging from the exquisitely colorful to starkly melanic, these mostly diurnal stamnodines are relatively uncommon in collections. Adults, rarely collected at light, are often netted at puddles or dung where they're found to be quite skittish-a behavioral attribute that likely explains some of their scarcity in collections when compared to moths of similar attraction. So far as known, the genus is entirely North American, ranging from the southwest US to at least Panama. Except for E. inconstans Geyer that reaches New Mexico and Arizona (MPG 2022), all species occur in Mesoamerica with a center of diversity in Mexico. Though presently comprised of 27 species (Scoble 1999), a modern taxonomic treatment is necessitated as the Mexican fauna has been largely overlooked, and several species may remain undescribed. The distributions of most species suggest the mountainous systems of central and southern Mexico appear to have played an important role in the diversification of this genus.
