The editors of this issue, Stephen Bendall and Matt Solan, would like to join with David Ricketts (a long-serving Surgical Training Committee member and upper limb surgeon) in dedicating the issue on the orthopaedic basic sciences to Professor Simon Fro-stick, who recently died after a long illness.Simon was born in Chatham in Kent and graduated in Medicine from Oxford in 1978, having gained a BA in Physiological Science in 1975. His postgraduate clinical training was in Oxford and later in Nottingham. He was awarded his doctorate from the University of Oxford in 1989 for work on the clinical and experimental aspects of denervation and re-innervation.
