BHP has revised its production forecasts for the Escondida copper mine in Chile and Nickel West in Australia due to a series of setbacks. Due to geotechnical risk management in a high-grade section, the company has reduced its copper production estimates for Escondida to between 1.05 Mt and 1.08 Mt, down from the previous forecast of 1.08 Mt to 1.18 Mt. This has resulted in lower volumes of mined ore and increased processing of lower-grade stockpiles. Meanwhile, BHP has lowered its nickel production guidance for the year to between 75,000 t and 85,000 t due to difficulties in processing ore with high levels of arsenic and heavy rain impacting mine progression. Despite this, the company's group-wide production guidance remains unchanged.
