Tom Kaminski provides a quick update of current Apache service in the US Army. Apaches have served as the US Army's primary attack helicopter since entering service as the AH-64A in 1984. The force received the last of 821 AH-64As in April 1996, and the last example was 'retired' from service during a ceremony at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base in Houston, Texas, on July 15, 2012. That Apache had been operated by the Texas Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 149th Aviation Regiment (1-149th ARB).
