AVI-8 is bringing out a range of limited-edition watches in collaboration with the Hawker Typhoon Preservation Group, the organisation which is having Typhoon Ib RB396 returned to flight. The latest of them is the RB396 Sheila timepiece, so named because that was the name given to the aircraft by pilot Frank Johnson in honour of his wife - something further reflected by the case-back art. The solid stainless-steel case measures 42mm in diameter, and is topped with a hardened sapphire-coated anti-reflective lens. The dial, says AVI-8, is inspired by cockpit details from the Typhoon. A Japanese Seiko TMI movement powers the watch. The leather strap incorporates padded stitching, again similar to the aircraft's cockpit. Four different strap colours are available, each named after a wartime airfield linked to RB396; shown here is the Lichfield version. Each watch is part of a 1,200-strong limited edition, and five per cent of net sales goes towards the HTPG.
