High-sulphur coke demand continued to rise in China after its Golden Week public holiday that lasted from 1-7 October. The increase in demand has been driven by higher do-mestic coal prices as many utilities needed to secure fuel inventories ahead of the key political meeting that begins on 16 October, the Communist Party’s 20th national congress. Domestic coal has been in shorter supply partly as a result of mine safety inspections in the run-up to the event.
