An engineering company has been fined £15,000 after an employee developed occupational asthma following exposure to metal working fluid (MWF). Following an HSE inspection in February 2016, Doncaster-based Lantern Engineering Ltd was required to implement health surveillance and manage the risks associated with MWF. Seven months later it was revealed that an employee was diagnosed with occupational asthma. The HSE issued an Improvement Notice in December 2016, requiring the firm to develop a system for managing MWF.
