Tiepolo (1696-1770) was an Italian Rococo painter and printmaker, and is now considered to be one of the most important members of the 18th-century Venetian school. The muse that lent her face to Cleopatra and inspired many Tiepolo's works was his beloved wife, Maria Cecilia Guardi.
