A Patient's Prayer

I once had a patient who was very ill and very stubborn. The patient’s wife was tired and stressed and in great need of encouragement and support in order to care for her demanding husband. Through the home care services provided by my agency. She was able to meet his care needs and have the support to continue to care for him at home rather than having him in the hospital.Early one morning, at 2:30 a.m., my patient’s wife awakened with this poem on her mind and wrote it for me. She gave the poem to me during my next visit and asked me to read it the next time I had a bad day.Whenever I read it, through tears, I feel as if I am really making a difference in people’s lives and it makes me feel good about being a nurse. In my heart, I thank this woman every time I read her special gift that I now share with you.
