The process of production of a highly dispersed oil-in-water emulsion in a rotary-cavitation machine was studied. Influence of the key factors (rotor rpm speed and type of surfactant) on the dispersion characteristics of the emulsion was evaluated. Physical aspects of dispersion in a rotary machine were considered. The experimental procedure implemented in a colloidal-cavitation setup was described. Generation of cavitation in this setup, by contrast to rotary-pulsating apparatuses, is due to the presence of numerous grooves rather than of notches on the rotor and stator. Specific features and characteristics of the surfactants used in the experiments were discussed.
