Year 2020 was a challenging year for our country as well as Indian Railways due to ongoing Covid 19 pandemic. Indian Railways played a pivotal role in keeping the wheels of economy moving during the nationwide lockdown when everything came to a grinding halt. Even the passenger trains were stopped for the first time in the history of Indian Railways. Western Railway kept the supply chain moving and ensured that there is no dearth of essential commodities, food grains, milk and lifesaving medicines & medical equipment. Railways made sure that the supply of coal to powerplants is not hampered, fertilizers continue to reach the farmers. Despite lockdown, Western Railway, left no stone unturned in fulfilling its social obligation towards the country. Western Railway utilised its resources to maximum to help the society during the pandemic. Western Railway undertook several steps like running Kisan Rails, running special parcel trains, tapping traffic from other sectors, transporting essential commodities on priority, providing health care support and many more so that the hardships faced by the country due to pandemic are minimised.
