At the Air Force Museum of New Zealand in Wigram, Christchurch, 18 months of detailed conservation/restoration work on the fuselage of Canadian Vickers PBV-1A Canso A 44-34081 is now coming to an end, and the former US Army Air Forces machine will soon go back into storage. It saw service towards the end of the war and was operated by Cathay Pacific Airways during 1948, but has no Royal New Zealand Air Force history. The airframe was rescued from the fire dump at Jacksons Airport near Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in 1975, initially going to the Museum of Transport and Technology in Auckland before arriving at Wigram in 1990.
